Damn Yoouuu, Arshavin
By: Al | August 1st, 2009
Yeah, yeah. You all probably saw Arshavin’s crazy “how did he score that?” goal. We will be the butt of the “jeez poor other team” comments for the next few days but whatever. We played freaking Arsenal, and Wenger didn’t field a team of 15 year olds either like I thought he would. Once again, it’s a loss but still a friendly.
Aguero and Forlan posed some danger as usual, and Asenjo had his moments of brilliance once again, but even then it was still a tense (and sometimes boring) game for the 86 minutes until Arshavin scored the first goal. Then Pacheco scored a goal after receiving a perfect through ball that left him one on one with Mannone. Then a few mins later, Arshavin’s cracker…
I’m not impressed by Atlético yet. The defense is still shaky and there are many other areas that need consistency *cough* every area *cough* but we have thirty days until the league starts (opening match is away to Malaga). Next up is Paris Saint-Germain, another solid team and our last chance to redeem ourselves in London. We haven’t won the last 3 games so please, try to convince us that you’re capable of contending this season!
I couldn’t see the whole game, and you can see an actual review from the Arsenal perspective at Arsenal Offside, but here are the numbers and all that boring stuff.

ummm, i am a great admirer of Asenjo, and i do hope the goalkeeper curse doesn’t hit him like it hit coupe. Great talent in Germán Pacheco.
