I’m Unofficially Changing The Name Of The Club

To Atlético Headache.
Get it? Because they lose games that they’re not supposed to lose and win games that they wouldn’t be expected to, therefore inflicting major cephalalgia to the supporters. I like it better. I think I may use it until it won’t be necessary to buy any more Advil.
Yesterday they played good football like they SHOULD be doing. Sorry to sound so demanding saying that, but it’s true. The only headache that I get is when they win against teams like Depor and lose against teams like Osasuna. I’ve talked about how much this inconsistency sucks before and I don’t feel like repeating myself, but it sucks. Why can’t you just stick to a winning philosophy?
As long as we won I don’t care. Watch the video and enjoy. The goals were all killer.
ATLETICO HEADACHE 3 – SPORTING GIJON 1
Talk about nice luck with the first goal! I won’t say something idiotic like “Forlan totally intended that to happen kchshhh” but that was a pretty, pretty goal. Simao’s was almost as nice and completely intentional too. He ran through the defense like nothing and cooly slotted the ball in, making it 2-0 by the 40th minute. I’ll just say this now: we’re going to miss Simao for the next game, because he got sent off and won’t be available for the next match. The man is almost a genius.
Sporting got walked over but they still put up a fight. Mate Bilic was their only true danger, and missed a few chances in the first half but finally scored in the second half with an easy tap-in. They didn’t play all that bad considering that they’re now in relegation zone. Hell, they even had more scoring opportunities than we did. You can tell that their defense is in shambles and that’s the only thing bringing them down.
And yes, Aguero scored again, after a beautiful cross by Forlan. It was classic Aguero, scoring like it’s nothing. Hopefully he has another chance to shine next year in whatever European competition we land in.
One thing surprising about the game was that it had one of the worst displays of fan support all year, with the crowd somewhat silent and chanting things against the director’s board. The fans are rightfully pissed and you could see signs at the Calderon like this one:

-
directed to chief Miguel Angel Gil, of course. (Also, after arriving from Santander, a group of fans began swearing at the team once they got out of the bus). When some of the best supporters in Spain are pissed at the club, you KNOW there’s something wrong.
Standings:

So, what now? There’s only one option:
Win every game remaining.
Do I think it’s possible? Maybe. Will it probably happen? No.
I’ll give you a prediction of what I think the rest of the season will look like:
Real Betis vs. Atlético Madrid – Loss
Atlético Madrid vs. Espanyol – Win
Atlético Madrid vs. Valencia – Win
Athletic Bilbao vs. Atlético Madrid – Loss
Atlético Madrid vs. Almeria – Win
Therefore I’m predicting 3 more wins. Betis will be no slouch. More like, Atlético Headache is more likely to choke than they are. We faced the worst home team in La Liga last Wednesday (Santander) and how did we fare? 5-1 loss. Betis are arguably better than Santander so they won’t be too kind. Espanyol seems to be on an okay streak but we killed them last time we faced them and they’ll be relying more on luck to defeat us, but I think we can take it. Valencia is doing very well right now, fresh off of a draw against Barca and I think that this match will be crucial for any Champions League hopes, in other words, it’s the match to prove which team is more worthy. Athletic killed us last time at home (1-3) so I expect them to win if we’re in the shape we’re in now. As for Almeria, they’re solid but not that good away, so we’ll take that victory.
Then again, you can disregard everything I just said, because this is Atlético Headache after all. You never know.

just recently became an atletico supporter (wanted to pick teams in La Liga and Serie A after only really being a Liverpool supporter for years) and i have to say they can be impressive when they want to be…forlan’s goal was quite amazing, but you’re right their consistency can just SUCK sometimes
