0-3
By: Al | September 17th, 2008You’ve all seen the goals. You’ve all witnessed a taste of Atlético’s potential. What else is there to say?
Here’s the 3rd goal (the first two kindly provided in the hyperlink above).
Also, is coach Aguirre offering el Kun a drink afterwards? (Look closely after one of the goals). Well, he deserves one after such a spectacular introduction to the Champions League.
The team was agressive, fast, and reminded me somewhat of Liverpool (the Champions League version, not the EPL one that draws every other match). Our new signings Johnny Heitinga and Tomas Ujfalusi did well and look like they’re on their way to a great season. Aguirre spent big for a reason: to be able to compete in every competition. And although it’s still a bit early in the season, the team has almost convinced me that they are able to contend for the biggest titles.
I admit, PSV’s mistakes were a bit comical sometimes (just watch the video of Maniche’s goal) and helped us out a ton, but they are actually a much better team than the PSV we saw yesterday. They can still pose a threat when they visit the Vicente Calderón, methinks.
The victory wasn’t “complete” according to Aguirre due to Diego Forlan’s injury. Forlan had to be subbed in the 35th minute and is now out for about 3-4 weeks due to hamstring injury. Ruh-oh. In the meantime, Florent Sinama-Pongolle will be paired with Aguero in a strike partnership that has barely developed.
Great result, but theres still a long way to go in the Champions League campaign and a couple of tough matches against Marseille and Liverpool. No need to get to excited just yet.
Now, La Liga action returns this weekend…
Atlético faces Recreativo Huelva on Sunday so I’ll have a preview of that up in a few days.

Kun is class. It’s great to see his coming of age Euro party. Ashame Forlan is injured now. Will Lil Luis Garcia play upfront? On a separate note, I hope that youngster Nacho Camacho gets more game time. I really hope you guys do well this season.
