Aupa Atleti
By: Andrey | August 8th, 2007Welcome to the Atletico Madrid corner of The Offside
My name is Andrey and I’m proud to be blogging for Atletico Madrid this upcoming season. Thanks to the King’s Ransom that we got for Niño Torres, Atleti has put together what I can see being soccer’s version of the Phoenix Suns, a running and entertaining team, hopefully with better results than Nash & Co.
A little about me, I’ve been a fan of Atletico since the early nineties, watching the Liga on Saturday afternoons was one of the highlights of my weekends while growing up in Costa Rica.
I remember those great teams with Futre and Schuster fondly, then I even got to like Luis Garcia, even with him being Mexican and all, nothing against the Aztecs in personal terms but when it comes to soccer we just don’t like them much. Sadly after coming to the US, I missed out on seeing the Double, though Simeone is still The Captain, during their time in Segunda it was hard since I couldn’t follow them as close. But now thanks to GolTV we have gotten acquainted once more and it’s like nothing happened.
This is my first blogging experience so any comments or suggestions are welcomed. Here are a couple of cool clips I thought I’ll share.
As some of you may know, Atletico will be leaving the Vicente Calderon soon and here is a clip of the new stadium, which looks amazing
Great ad describing what we all feel about our teams we follow so close…

I’m surprised you’re happy about the move out of el Vicente Calderón. A lot of supporters are vehemently against it!

The economics of sports are forcing the team’s hand on this one…selling the Calderon will help them get out of debt and apparently they’re getting a good deal to move to the new one…People are complaining about it but it’s mostly because the board isn’t popular among the diehards, so they’ll always get criticized…I’ve never been to the Calderon but I’ll try to get there before the move

I am looking forward to it too Andrey, to be honest i think you have us beat. We are not looking to good right now, we will need time to bed down. You guys have made some great signings and we have not, so i tip my hat to you. if only i ran the club.

I hate the board, but they’ve done well for this transfer market.I like the idea of moving to a new stadium, 70,000 capacity over 50,000 capacity is great. I just hope it doesn’t look like Espanyol’s stadium- soulless.

Oi, this politeness between (C*rey and Andrey) is making me physically ill!

Seriously, Corey and Andrey. I don’t approve. Both of your teams are trash. I hate you both.
(Is that better, Atleti?)
Yo, como aficionado de la seleccion estadounidense estoy completamente de acuerdo con lo de que dijiste sobre los mexicanos. Muy buena gente, pero su seleccion esta bien fea.
Always good to see another Liga blog. When you guys tank at the end of this coming season, I’ll be happily watching the tears flowing and the curses being laid upon your inept board.

Isaiah, sarcasm (re ‘Is that better’)?! I bleed red & white, my father bleeds red & white, my grandfather bleeds red & white, well you get the point. Hardcore Atleti supporters intensely hate all things Madrista. Es como es.

Not politeness, more recognizing the facts and not being blinded by ignorance to know that Atletico has made some strong signings and their team looks very good. They have a better chance of winning the first derby because our preseason is not going so hot, but i dont expect Atletico to finish above us, and since they crap out every year around March I say they miss out on Europe again.
