Goals, goals, goals.

Atlético Madrid 4 – Recreativo Huelva 0

Kun Agüero scores again. Is that even surprising?

Seriously though, how deadly is this guy? Three goals in five days. About ten minutes after his goal, he received a long cross from the right corner and chipped the ball over the keeper with a header and scored, but the goal was disallowed because a Recre player was brought down before the goal. Can’t teams realize that leaving Agüero unmarked could result in an instant goal? His first goal was pretty much a gift.

The second goal was a cracker by Maniche and the keeper had no chance. Great overall energy by the man, he busted his balls off. I’m glad he didn’t end up staying with Inter. Sinama-Pongolle took the spotlight by scoring two very good goals against his former club. As he said before, he didn’t celebrate and just walked around with an “aww man…” look on his face. He’s still a bit attached to Recre but those goals were inevitable. But he’s on a good track, he has Forlan’s shoes to fill and he’s not doing too shabby.

This is Atlético’s third consecutive 4-0 victory at the Vicente Calderón (Schalke, Malaga, Recreativo). Sinama-Pongolle is currently tied for Pichichi with Gijon’s Mate Bilic at 3 goals. Not bad, maybe he’ll be inspired to net more goals.

Also, webcam extraordinaire Éver Banega made his league debut. He did well for the time he had, and gave a good cross to Garcia which led to the neat assist to Pongolle for the 4th goal.

However, coach Aguirre still isn’t satisfied with the team’s performance.

“We left a lot of gaps in midfield and there’s too much distance between defence and attack, like both our first goals, for instance, which came from long balls.

“But I liked the way we dealt with the ball and the way we tidied up. There was good balance in the team and if we can continue to do that and restrict our mistakes, then we will see a lot of potential,” he added.

He’s right, there’s always room for improvement. Right now we’re on a good streak but it’s still matchday 3. A long, long season is still up ahead, and if theres any time to begin building momentum, it’s now.

Yeah, what happened there? He was the cast off of cast offs it seemed and now he is running the Atletico midfield and scoring? Strange.
