So Long, Maniche

By: Al | May 6th, 2009

It’s official, Nuno Maniche has been released by Atlético Madrid. He recently fell out of favor by coach Abel Resino and after not showing up to a game (you’re required to go even if you’re not on the roster), he was banned from club grounds, was fined, and has now been told to pack his bags and GTFO.

I’m going to do an interactive post similar to one I saw in a Maldini Monday at AC Milan Offside a while ago. Press the play button for the video below and slowly scroll down and look at every picture and reminisce over Donut Colossus. When you’re done, turn off the music and move on with your life (or leave it on, if you want).

Since Seitaridis and Leo Franco are also confirmed for leave, I’ll make similar posts in the near future.

They had to make XL size shirts after that day. ^

AUPA MANICHE!

Nah, Leo Franco’s contract is up and he wants to move, either to Real Betis or to Galatasaray.

I never really rated Maniche and always thought of him as “the ugly guy”. Surely this isn’t much of a loss for you guys.

With Coupet likely on the outs too, who’s Atletico’s keeper going to be?

And yeah, Maniche has been utterly mediocre. Not missing his departure.

Next years keeper will be Sergio Asenjo of Valladolid, that 19 year old wonderkid that everyone wants. A deal is close but if he doesn’t come, Coupet will stay and be the number one for next season.

Maniche did play some good games this season but also some stinkers. I think it’s unfair how Resino rots very good players on the bench (Coupet, Maniche) but as long as he gets results, it’s pointless to get mad at him.
